Roots blower (Roots blower) is a rotary compressor that uses two or three blade rotors to make relative movement in the cylinder to compress and deliver gas. The blower has simple structure and is easy to manufacture. It is suitable for gas transmission and pressurization at low pressure occasions, and can also be used as a vacuum pump

1. Basic equipment knowledge

1.1 Working principle

Roots blower is a positive displacement blower, which separates the air inlet and outlet through the engagement of a pair of rotors (there is clearance between the rotors, but they do not contact each other). The rotor is driven by a pair of synchronous gears and moves in the opposite direction to push the inhaled gas from the suction port to the exhaust port without internal compression. When the gas reaches the exhaust port, it is pressurized due to the backflow of high-pressure gas at the exhaust side, thus completing the gas transmission. The two rotors do not contact each other, and they are sealed by a tightly controlled gap, so the discharged gas is not polluted by lubricating oil.

2. Startup and shutdown steps


2.1 Inspection and preparation before startup

(1) Prepare necessary starting tools: Valve hook, wrench, etc.

(2) Check whether the grounding wire of the motor is in good condition (electric leakage may lead to electric shock), whether the anchor bolt is fastened (equipment vibration may shorten the service life), and whether the wheel cover is fastened (there is a risk of mechanical injury).

(3) Check whether the lubricating oil level and quality meet the requirements.

(4) Turning is easy without jamming.

(5) Check whether the air inlet filter is unblocked and whether the filter inlet is fully opened.

(6) For fans with cooling water, check whether the cooling water is unblocked.

2.2 Startup steps

After the inspection and preparation, the machine can be started. It is absolutely forbidden to close all the gate valves at the air inlet and outlet when starting up, and it is also forbidden to suddenly start up when the car is fully loaded.

(1) Fully open the inlet control valve, outlet control valve, bypass pipe and cooling water valve.

(2) Start the motor. Operate the empty car for 20~30 minutes, and observe whether the blower is abnormal. If there is a collision or friction sound, stop the car immediately for inspection and troubleshooting.

(3) After normal operation, gradually adjust the outlet valve (or gradually close the vent valve) and gradually load it to the rated pressure.

2.3 Daily patrol inspection and maintenance

(1) Check the equipment for abnormal sound, vibration and air leakage.

(2) Check whether the oil level and quality are normal. Replace the lubricating oil of Roots blower every 3-6 months. After the first start, the working time is up to 200 hours, and the oil should be changed.

(3) Check whether the cooling water is unblocked and normal (observe whether the water meter rotates or whether there is no water flowing out of the drain).

(4) Check whether the equipment bearing and motor are overheated.

(5) Check whether the air volume, suction and discharge air pressure and other parameters are within the range of process indicators.

(6) Check the indicated value of the ammeter. In case of any abnormality, stop the machine immediately for inspection.

2.4 Shutdown steps

(1) Process load reduction.

(2) Open the pressure relief valve to relieve pressure.

(3) Stop the motor after no load and no voltage.
